Charlie Gals: Women of Jazz Dance Series
Charlie Gals is BACK in 2015 and we’re kicking off with an inspiration series of women in jazz dance.
What made Josephine Baker so unique? Who is Bee Jackson? Do you know Ginger without Fred? How did Sandra put the ‘Boogie’ in Gibson? Each week we’ll take inspiration from different female jazz dance icons and explore aspects of their style, musicality, movement and history through a combination of skills and choreography. The series will cover different types of solo jazz dance, from Charleston to blues to Black bottom and back again, so be ready to try it all and dance in anything from heels to bare feet.
- Thursdays in March
- March 5, 12, 19, 26
- Intermediate and higher - female solo dancers.
- 16 dancers max
You will get the most out of these classes if you already have a basis of solo jazz to build on. If you're comfortable with the shim sham, and can do a little bit of jazz step styling you'll be all that and a bag o' chips.
