What we do

1929 Studios has a dual role: to celebrate and enjoy the Black dances of the swing and jazz eras, and to share them with the people around us. This means that we teach dance classes, we perform and entertain, we run parties and weekend events, we compete, we take classes, we jam, we enjoy music.

What we believe

At 1929 Studios, we believe that dance can be a vehicle for social change and personal growth. We endeavour to share our love and passion of Lindy Hop with all walks of life. With people of all races, ages, genders, orientations, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We welcome and encourage all experience levels. Our mission is to share the Lindy Hop with brand new people and help those who have experience with the art form to listen and respond as we and the dance continue to grow.

We preserve, respect, and uphold the work and creation of the Lindy Hop pioneers and elders. We are also deeply committed to imparting the knowledge of the original steps and choreography alongside their creative foundations to inspire innovation.

We believe our work together should be safe, equitable, and enjoyable. And part of this means that we are continually growing, changing, and learning. Innovating. Just as our covid policies have changed as they respond to our community’s health, and our dancing changes as we learn more and we grow as people, our organisation is committed to changing and growing as our wider community changes. And we’re excited by that.

We promise a fun, stimulating, and joyous environment, but have no remedy if you walk away, head to toe itching for more….except more jazz dance and music!

Love, 1929 Studios.
